About LIFE

What happens when a team of young altruistic individuals join together to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate? Born is an NGO called LIFE - Literacy For Everyone.

LIFE was formed in order to realize the dreams of a small team of young committed professionals - Engineers, Lawyers and MBAs who visioned a better tomorrow for the poor down trodden street children facing abuses such as child labour and commercial sex trafficking. These young men believed that there is an abundance of potential in every child that should be trapped and canalised in the right direction, and strived towards arranging the resources required to fulfil their objective, To identify talents and offer the weapon of Education.

Their committed efforts paid off in February 2004, when LIFE came into existence with Hajith Makki, Vinod Yadav and Amit Yadav as its co-founders. Before long many like-minded people with similar vision joined this growing team, and within a few months of its inception, the founders alone managed to pool in resources sufficient to help around 10 children with their complete education requirements. LIFE's members are growing everyday.

LIFE works towards equipping deserving children with the most powerful weapon that helps to defend themselves- Education. As the first step towards accomplishing this objective LIFE works towards bridging the huge literacy gap that exists between the Rich and Poor in India. Helping the school drop outs by teaching them vocational skills, and encouraging more and more children to enter schools and also retaining them there until they finish are few measures LIFE adopts in order to achieve this goal. The work also extends for special children who are physically / mentally challenged. At present, work has commenced in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Bihar, UP and Karnataka, but very soon, considering LIFE's growing members, this service will extend to all parts of India.

Retaining qualified teaching staffs in the rural schools has been a problem due to low salaries, poor benefits and lack of proper teaching facilities. Keeping these shortcomings in mind, LIFE has plans of introducing innovative and cost-effective ICT tools and methodologies for improving the quality of teaching and aiding in the learning of basic vocational education. Also in the pipelines are our unique teacher incentive schemes and awards for performing teachers. Our efforts also extend to working in symbiosis with the local community members in their developmental activities.
